The TOEFL test score is accredited in almost nine thousand universities worldwide and this feature has made TOEFL one of the most prestigious tests. This old and valid test, which is considered as a criterion for measuring the level of English language of people, has different types and is held in various forms. Paper TOEFL Test (PBT)
The written or paper-based TOEFL test has 4 sections. The score of this test is 310 to 677, which is the scores of the speaking, reading and listening sections. In this test, the questions are provided to the candidate in the form of a booklet. In this type of test, the score of the written part is calculated separately. Most universities in the world consider the 550 score to be low. This test is held 6 times a year in different countries.
Listening
The audio part, which includes 50 questions, is presented in three parts. Design listening questions based on:
Part 1: Conversation between two people
Part II: A broader conversation between two or more people
Part 3: An academic lecture on a scientific topic
The time to answer the questions in this section is 35 minutes.
Structure and Written Expression
The questions in this section are asked in two ways:
In the first set of questions, the candidate must recognize the correct structure and order of the words. These questions are made up of one sentence with one or more blanks, and the candidate must choose the option that best completes the sentence.
In the second group of questions, complete sentences are presented, under which four sections are underlined. The candidate must specify the wrong part. The questions in this section will be a total of 40 questions that the applicant has 25 minutes to answer.
Reading
In this part of the test, the level of comprehension of English texts as well as the extent of students’ vocabulary are evaluated. In this section, 5 specialized texts with scientific and academic topics have been stated and 10 questions have been asked for each text, and applicants have 55 minutes to answer the questions. The answers to all the questions are in the text and you do not need to have a mental background to answer the questions.
Writing
In this part of the test, a topic is discussed and applicants have 30 minutes to write an essay on that topic.
The TOEFL test score is between 310 and 677 and is obtained from the sum of the scores of the listening, comprehension, and structure sections. The score of the listening and structure sections is defined in the range of 31-38 and the score of the comprehension section is defined in the range of 31-37. The writing section score is not included in the applicant’s total score, but is counted separately.
CBT Computer TOEFL Test
The computer-based TOEFL test is very similar to the written TOEFL test, except that it is held behind a computer. This test is not held in Iran. The questions of this exam are comparative. This means that if the answer to the first question is given incorrectly, the next question will be simpler and scoreless. The written part must be typed. The maximum TOEFL computer score is 300, so a score of 250 is equivalent to 600 written exams.
Internet TOEFL (iBT) As you have read in previous articles, the most common method of conducting the TOEFL test in previous years was computer-based TOEFL. However, with the development and spread of the Internet in TOEFL test centers, the ground was prepared for holding the test online. Other countries that do not have internet access hold the test on paper. The TOEFL Internet (iBT) test is held 30 to 40 times a year in various countries. The time of this test is 4 hours and it is held in 4 sections. Each of the Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing skills is assessed in the TOEFL test, and the score of each skill is between 0 and 30, and in total between 0 and 120.
