In adults, however, the opposite is true, and my many years of experience in teaching English show that this problem does not exist only in beginners, and even at higher levels because learners think others expect more from them. However, at both beginner and advanced levels, fear is the most important deterrent to learning English.
To put it bluntly, this fear is nothing but the fear of “looking dumb” in public! Fear of being lost (or whatever text you like to use for this slang term). You may laugh at yourself, but you must have fallen victim to this fear. For example, when you have a question in class and just because you felt your question was stupid and very trivial, you did not see it in front of other classmates.
This small fear will definitely paralyze your language learning and you will never experience the pleasure you should get from learning a second language. Instead, if you are not afraid and make mistakes, learn from your mistakes and try not to repeat them, you will just understand what learning a language means.
Be careful, I said try to repeat your mistakes. That means you should not even be afraid of repeating mistakes. So, the next time you ask yourself, “Why is learning English so slow for me?”, Just ask yourself, “Am I afraid to make a mistake or not?” If the answer is yes, you should correct this view as soon as possible and (again in slang) love to make mistakes!
